Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has claimed that his side never expected Liverpool to be on top of the English Premier League (EPL) table with 22 points ahead of second-place at this stage of the season.
Guardiola said this on Sunday before Manchester City’s Premier League clash with West Ham United that was postponed.
The Spaniard told The National:
“We [Man City] have a big rival Liverpool leading with 22 points. And that is not good at all.
“We did something incredible last season, and Liverpool is doing it now.
“We must admit that the gap [22 points] is big.
“We did not expect it from them this season, but we have to respect them for that.”
Liverpool moved 22 points ahead of Man City on the EPL table after defeating Southampton 4-0 before the winter break.
